A Bigger Warning

In some cases
one can see
anger coming
from across the sea
Destructiveness
travels no longer
under sail
But in data streams
floats e-mail
Of intelligence
from satellites
may be no dearth
but what use
to the idiots
here on earth.
Nautical myths
have their charm
fair weather they wish
of foul weather they warn
Beware
of the language,
the violence explicit
In film it distracts
from criminals complicit
Beware
of the smoke
from tobacco one sees
Not of radiation
from atomic debris
Beware
of the carbon
trodding the earth
Not waste industrial
Nor weapons refined
Don’t heat your home
Drive not to your job
Just surrender your
savings and wages
they rob.
Sailors say red
Is the evening’s delight
Vessels at sea
more easily dirigible
Red on the back
of the rising sun
but for an Idiot Warning
before day is done!
A Warning? “American Idiot”
