NSC-68 and the National Security State

National Security Council Paper NSC-68 was classified until 1975. The top secret report, completed by the Department of State’s Policy Planning Staff on April 7, 1950, set the stage for the creation of the military industrial complex. On this edition of The Geopolitical Report, we look at how the national security state and the military industrial complex are responsible for the death of between 20 and 30 million people, a toll that may rival Nazi Germany. By fiscal year 2015, military spending accounted for 54 percent of all federal discretionary spending. The Cold War average was $450 billion and this year the House Armed Services committee said it plans to set the topline of the House's annual defense authorization bill to $640 billion, along with a $65 billion war budget. The CIA has acted as the vanguard for illegal wars, both overt and proxy, and the NSA is now a premier surveillance behemoth that pries into every aspect of our lives.
