Tesla to Unveil All-Electric (Self-Driving?) Semi Truck in September

All electric, presumably self-driving and gargantuan in size, the Tesla semi truck could make cargo transportation safer and less detrimental to the environment.
(TA) Good news for lovers of the car maker Tesla. CEO of the company, Elon Musk, recently Tweeted that the electric automaker’s next product will be bigger than personal transportation. Reportedly, Tesla is set to launch an all-electric semi truck, and it is expected to be unveiled within the next few months.
On Twitter, Musk wrote that the truck will be revealed in September and that the technology utilized is “seriously next level.” Musk also mentioned that the company is in the process of developing a pickup truck. That project won’t be unveiled for 18 to 24 months, however.

This isn’t the first mention of creating a semi-truck. In July 2016, when Musk was dropping hints about his “Master Plan,” it was mentioned that Tesla was in the process of inventing an electric semi-truck.
According to Inhabitat, the Tesla Semi Truck is “an essential part of creating greener transportation.” All electric, presumably self-driving and gargantuan in size, it could make cargo transportation safer and less detrimental to the environment.
As Wired points out, Musk’s grand ambition isn’t that unfathomable. Unlike small cars, semis and the trailers they haul are large enough to hold the grandiose battery packs needed to power the big rigs. Additionally, more space is created when the internal combustion engine is removed, allowing one to use smaller motors on each axle or even each wheel. Additionally, electric motors provide plenty of torque, which is likely to improve acceleration and pulling power. And, “slinging the battery and motors between the frame rails lowers the center of gravity, improving handling.” More range can be squeezed from the battery, which means Musk is definitely onto something.
Undoubtedly, Tesla is a company to watch. To date, the company has released the luxury Model S sedan, Model X luxury crossover SUV and the more affordable Model 3, which will be available for sale later this year.
