Three talented authors with new books about protest and social change engage in discussion on "Activism in the age of Trump".Our guests today:

Each participant brings rich experience and a unique perspective to our conversation: Kaufman's deep history of covering and participating in major actions; van Gelder's insight into local activist movements; and Atlee's vision of capturing the energy of opposition to Trump for long-term change through Citizen Deliberative Councils.
We open with thumbnails of each author's book, and discuss their particular focus. From there, we talk about the challenge of current protests, where "black bloc" groups use vandalism and violence to make their points, undermining the strength of nonviolent expression.
We talk about Occupy and the recent actions at Standing Rock as examples of protests that resonated, producing some unexpected outcomes. We talk about the March 8 International Women's Day protests, and the January 21 women's march in Washington and many other cities.
