Draitser explains that the breakdown in relations is part of a broader international proxy war that includes the massacre of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria as well as the execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, both of which are retribution for the pivotal role that Iran has played in Syria, as well as its alleged backing of Houthi rebels in Yemen.
