Syrian Forces Enter Aleppo Prison

Syrian special forces have broken the siege of Aleppo Central Prison, according to a correspondent with Al-Manar News. The sprawling facility has been under siege by foreign militants for over a year. For the past number of days, Syrian forces have bombarded terrorist positions on the outskirts of the prison. Today, elite troops broke through to the prison, providing the garrison with food and ammunition.
Militants from several countries have been involved in the siege of the prison, which is 4 miles north of Aleppo and holds approximately 4,000 inmates. Several attempts have been made to infiltrate the prison, including suicide bombings. However, the prison’s garrison have resisted and defeated all attempts by militants from a number of groups including Liwa al-Tawheed, Jabhat al Nusra and the Islamic Front.
Syrian forces are advancing across the country in the run up to the presidential elections on June 3.
