Overall military activities by foreign-backed insurgents in Syria have been relatively low in July, as they prepare a major campaign in August and September. However, insurgents have been trying to lay siege on Aleppo and are attempting to cut off the supply of food to its citizen.
The attempt to create a humanitarian crisis to justify intervention is failing, as the Syrian Armed Forces continue making progress at weeding out arms caches and terrorist hideouts, and the government implements relief plans.
Syria´s Prime Minister, Wael al-Halqi has held a meeting with the newly elected Governors of Quneitra and Homs, Maen Salah-Eddin Ali and Talal al-Barazi.
New Governors and Syria´s Media. Syria´s Prime Minister, Wael al-Halqi has held a meeting with the newly elected Governors of Quneitra and Homs, Maen Salah-Eddin Ali and Talal al-Barazi.
During the meeting, al-Halqi stressed the need for concerted efforts for overcoming the challenges which Syria is currently facing.
During a joint press conference, al-Halqi praised the progress and victories of the armed forces and the internal security forces in combating armed terrorist groups.
He affirmed the important role of Syria´s national media in facing the media and propaganda war that is being waged against the country, alongside the armed insurgency and sanctions.
Insurgents attempt Starving Aleppo into Surrender or Humanitarian Crisis. Government continues Food Aid and other Aid to Inflicted Segments of the Population. Prime Minister al-Halqi stressed, that the government will continue its policy of subsidizing food, oil, and other needed materials to mitigate the rise of prices, and to address the needs of all citizens.
Al-Halqi stressed, that the government is determined not to allow any party inside or outside Syria to manipulate the value of the Syrian pound and the peoples´livelihood. He stressed, that Syria has enough stockpiles of the various basic food and oil products.
Over the past two weeks, insurgents in the countryside of Aleppo have attempted to lay siege on the city and its citizens by targeting food supplies en route to Aleppo by either seizing the transports or, if that is impossible, to destroy the vehicles and goods, along with murdering the drivers.
The armed forces have addressed the situation strategically, and after only a few days, the situation has reportedly been brought under as much control as circumstances permit in a country, that is being targeted by foreign armed, paid and recruited mercenaries.
20.000 Food Baskets to Aleppo. On Thursday, the Higher Committee for Relief discussed means to deliver aid to the provinces of Hasaka, Raqqa and Aleppo, in addition to applying new mechanisms to provide help to affected citizens.
Minister of Social Affairs, Kinda al-Shammat, stressed, that the Committee has already delivered 20,000 food baskets, in addition to health baskets and milk for kids, to the families affected by the terrorist groups’ acts in Aleppo.
Kinda al-Shammat pointed out, that certain alternatives are being studied to help run aid convoys to the Hasaka province after the armed terrorist groups have blocked the delivery of aid to many areas in the province. She added, that the government will take steps to assure that the aid will be delivered to those who are in need, and that relief cards will be issued.
Al-Shammat stressed, that the system will soon be implemented in Aleppo, and that it is expected, that the initiative, because of the collection of data for the project, also will help limit the number of displaced families and families who are living in temporary shelters. She also said, that the Ministry of Social Affairs already has completed collecting data for 100.000 families for whom the government will provide financial assistance, which will be organized within the framework of an agreement, that was signed between the Ministries of Social Affairs and local administrations, as well as the UN High Commission for Refugees.
According to Rafah Breidi, Director of the Planning Department at the Local Administration Ministry, the current number of Shelters for displaced families is 846, distributed over various districts. Al Breidi referred to a signed agreement between the Ministry and the High Commission for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration to prepare 350 new temporary residential centers by the end of 2013.
August – September Campaign and International Recruitment. With regard to a renewed political and military campaign of the foreign-backed political opposition and the armed insurgents, there are indications supporting several analysts assessments, that the insurgents are using July 2013 to establish arms caches throughout Syria. Likewise, it seems that the international recruiting or mercenaries has been re-intensified.
The Acting President of the Russian, North Caucasian province Dagestan, Ramazan Abdulatipov said, that an unknown number of youth from Dagestan have left the country to join armed groups in Syria. According to Russia´s Federal Security Service Department, more than 200 youth are already in Syria and some of them are fighting the Syrian government. Last month, Russia´s President Vladimir Putin revealed, that about 600 insurgents from Russia and Europe are fighting alongside armed terrorist groups in Syria. A nsnbc source in Syria reports of an increase in the number of Chechen fighters over the last month. nsnbc has also received information, according to which a growing number of insurgents near the Jordanian border city al-Mafraq are being trained by US Special Forces. Reportedly, some of them are being trained for high profile political and military assassinations, as well as for precision bombing operations where spotters on the ground are essential for operational success.
Six members of Jabhat al-Nusrah in Lebanon probably wish that they never had been recruited into the organization. The Lebanese Military prosecutor has brough charges against the six arrested al-Nusrah members, if forming an armed gang to carry out terrorist acts against people and their properties.
The six were arrested last week, when the Lebanese Army seized a truck with weapons and another vehicle that was used for transporting the al-Nusrah gunmen from Arsal to Beqaa. Following investigations, the Prosecution Office referred the arrested gunmen to the Military Investigation Judge, stressing that the charge carries the death penalty.
