When individuals don't have to cooperate with each other to thrive, they have perverse incentives to act against each other. In Europe, jihadists and potential jihadists are paid to separate themselves from the brotherhood of man. For example, in a German newspaper's analysis of 450 German jihadists, more than 20% received benefits from the German state.
